Sound Telecom CEO, Michael LaBaw Presented Chartered Global Management Accountant Designation

Michael LaBaw, CEO of Sound Telecom, a leading provider of 24 hour Telephone Answering, Call Center and Unified Communication Services has been recognized with the Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation created by the American Institute of CPA’s (AICPA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).  The CGMA designation recognizes the expertise of management accountants in guiding critical business decisions and driving strong business performance in organizations throughout the international business community.

AICPA, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and CIMA, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, two of the world’s most prestigious accounting bodies, have formed a joint venture to elevate the profession of management accountancy by establishing Chartered Global Management Account (CGMA) as the most valued, globally recognized management accountant designation.    While many CGMAs work in the finance department, others including Mr. LaBaw, put their broader training to use across the organization, including roles of Board Director, Chairman and CEO.

As Founder and CEO of Sound Telecom, Michael LaBaw provides strategic, visionary, management and operational oversight of the Company. In addition to directing Sound Telecom's management team, Mr. LaBaw is responsible for negotiating major contracts, acquisitions and divestitures. He also takes an active role in the sales and marketing strategies of the Company. Prior to founding Sound Telecom in 1986, Mr. LaBaw started his career as a Certified Public Accountant for Grant Thornton and subsequently served in key management roles as an owner or executive for a number of privately held companies. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from Colorado State University.  He is currently serving on the boards of Seattle Area Youth for Christ and Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho.

Chartered Global Management Accountants combine financial expertise and business acumen.  “My degree in accounting, career experience as a CPA and experience serving in key financial and management accounting roles in organizations have provided  the foundation to give me the insight needed to found and grow several companies, most notably Sound Telecom,” says LaBaw.

CGMA qualifications require a minimum of one of the following: Three years of financial (including internal audit) or management experience in business, industry or government; or two years of financial or management accounting experience plus one year in public accounting; or three years of financial/management accounting experience on a consultant basis; or three years in a management accounting role focused on the management and operation of an accounting firm.  While only one of the criteria is necessary to meet the requirements of the CGMA qualification, Mr. LaBaw has accomplished all four conditions during his career as the founder of Sound Telecom, holder of various financial positions in private industry, owner of a CPA practice and as a tax and audit staff accountant at Grant Thornton (formerly Alexander Grant).
