The Heat Is On, Claudine Schneider, former 5-Term US Congresswoman & Dr. Paul
Epstein, Associate Director Harvard University's Center for Global Health and
the Environment (invited)
OREGON, PORTLAND, Mar. 28 -/E-Wire/-- Green House Network (www.greenhousenet.org), a non-profit organization dedicated to public education about the need for action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, is seeking individuals from across the United States who wish to join our National Volunteers Speaker Network.
Application deadline is May 10th, 2002
In a partnership with Clean Air-Cool Planet and the Massachusetts Climate Action Network, we will be holding a training session for 35 people interested in joining our national speakers bureau. The workshop will be held on the weekend of July 19 (with a ferry departing at 5:30 on Friday and returning at 2 on Sunday) at the Outward Bound conference center on Thompson Island in Boston Harbor. Over the last two years, our volunteers have given over 350 public presentations about the science and solutions to global climate change.
In exchange for the training, each individual will commit to:
1) Giving at least 5 speeches on campuses, at faith or business groups, or other community venues in their region
2) Arranging a meeting with regional political leader to discuss climate policy
Presentations by our speaker's network are set up and coordinated by Green House Network staff. Thus, the commitment on the part of the speakers is limited to the actual delivery of 5 presentations over the course of Fall-Spring 2002-2003, and one meeting with a regional political leader.
Cost for the weekend including food, lodging, and materials is $170. Scholarships of up to $100 are available.
Participants should have an initial, broad familiarity with the global warming issue. The workshop will provide more detailed scientific, political, and economic information, assistance in the preparation of an effective 30-minute presentation, and information on how to set up meetings with political leaders. Past participants have included college professors, scientists, executives, artists, engineers, clergy members, retirees, nurses, architects, and graduate students.
Send an application by US mail to: Rebecca J. Scott Clean Air - Cool Planet 100 Market St., Suite 204 Portsmouth, NH 03801
The application should include:
1) A brief letter stating the reason for your interest, as well as any experience you have had in public speaking or organizing. Please also indicate any scholarship requests.
2) A curriculum vitae or resume.
3) Five campuses or faith or business group venues in your region where a global warming presentation would have the biggest impact.
4) An e-mail address for follow-up correspondence.
The closing date for applications is May 10th, 2002.
