Making It Right; Lessons and Solutions in Global Sourcing and Labor Issues Conference

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, Apr. 11 -/E-Wire/-- As the world's economy becomes more global, the amount and variety of imported products raises concerns about child labor, workplace health and safety regulations in factories that produce the clothes we wear, the shoes on our feet and the toys and sports equipment played with by our children. Most companies are still exploring these issues, trying to determine the best ways to avoid using factories where abusive workplace conditions could potentially put reputations and brands at risk.

Lebhar-Friedman, publisher of Chain Store Age and DSN Retailing Today, and World Monitors Inc., a consulting group that provides information and consulting services to corporations on business and human rights issues, will host a one day conference to New York City entitled, "Making It Right: Lessons and Solutions in Global Sourcing and Labor Issues."

The conference will be held November 5, 2002, in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in New York City. Keynote speakers include Paul Charron, CEO, Liz Claiborne; Hal Upbin, CEO, Kellwood; and Peter Whitford, President, Disney Worldwide Stores. Other invited speakers include Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of New York City, Martha Stewart, and Kenneth Cole. Participants will hear from leading CEOs on global sourcing challenges and compliance.

The conference includes presentations by the three major workplace monitoring programs-The Fair Labor Association, Social Accountability International, and the Worldwide Responsible Apparel Production-that are working to assure compliance with workplace codes of conduct. The conference will inform and teach executives, managers, strategists, quality control personnel, and external affairs professionals about the monitoring programs and the strategies leading brands have in place to comply with acceptable employment standards.

Consumer activists and socially-conscious investors increasingly target brand name makers of apparel and footwear as a strategy to improve conditions for workers from factories in New York's Chinatown to Thailand's garment row. Today the risk to a brand name company's reputation increases with every sourcing partner contract. This conference will be the definitive source for those professionals to learn about the solutions.
