Middle and Senior High School Students to Clean-Up a Section of the L.A. River as Part of Earth Day, April 20

CALIFORNIA, LOS ANGELES, Apr. 16 -/E-Wire/-- --

WHAT: Middle and senior high school students will be removing debris and planting native scrubs and trees at the proposed site of the State Park at Taylor Yard, which is the largest undeveloped parcel (247 acres) along the L.A. River. The students will also be learning about preserving and protecting the environment for future generations in celebration of Earth Day.

WHEN: Saturday, April 20, 2002 9:00 a.m. to Noon

WHERE: Fletcher Drive at the Los Angeles River, adjacent to the Golden State Freeway (I-5) - across from Griffith Park

HOW: The project is sponsored by the Los Angeles Unified School District Academic Mentor Program, the California State Parks Foundation through grants provided by the Los Angeles and Woodland Hills Rotary Clubs and GoServ (Governor's Office Service and Volunteerism)
