FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EARTH DAY 2002 Webcast

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, Apr. 16 -/E-Wire/-- ---

EVENT: EARTH DAY 2002 Webcast on Environmental Issues

Opportunities for Industry, Regulators and Standards

Developers in Environmental Protection

DATE: April 22, 2002 - 1:00 - 3:00 pm (Eastern)

LOCATION: See website for details: http://www.ansi.org/public/events/environment/webcast.html

SYNOPSIS: This Earth Day 2002 webcast will connect leading environmental regulators with industry representatives and the public for an interactive discussion of the Bush Administration's current environmental policy.

Panelists will include the chairman of the President's Council on Environmental Quality, high-ranking officials from the Environmental Protection Agency, and several private-sector experts. Viewers will be able to engage in "real-time" dialogue with the panelists via fax or e-mail.

Discussions will be aimed at effectively utilizing scarce resources for environmental programs at the federal, state and local levels by capitalizing on existing industry standards and conformity assessment programs. Panelists will comment on the Administration's increasing trend of using environmental management systems such as ISO 14000, as well as other industry standards, as alternatives to regulatory rulemaking. Similarly, panelists will consider related conformity assessment programs as a means of reducing the need for government inspections to verify compliance with EPA requirements.

The webcast is hosted by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), a globally recognized leader in the standards and conformity assessment arena.

PARTICIPANTS: Industry executives, environmental advocates, trade and professional organization officials, consumers, and government officials with environmental protection responsibilities.
