FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
EPA Antimicrobial Position Expands BBJ Market Opportunity
TAMPA, FLORIDA, Apr. 17 -/E-Wire/-- BBJ Environmental Technologies, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: BBJE) is pleased to announce that BBJ Environmental Solutions' CEO Robert Baker will chair a panel discussion of EPA's new policy position advisory on the safe and effective use of Antimicrobial products in Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration ("HVAC/R') systems in Austin, Texas on April 24, 2002. The session will be held as part of the Healthy Indoor Environments Conference.
In addition to Mr. Baker, the panel will include Mr. Dennis Edwards, Associate Director of EPA's Antimicrobials Division, Mr. Mike McGuinness, a well-regarded contractor and Mr. Mike Duffy, a respected environmental attorney. This panel will address the issues highlighted in a letter signed March 14 by Ms. Marsha Mulkey, Director of EPA's Office of Pesticide Programs.
In her letter, Ms. Mulkey cautioned users to take care in selecting products for use in HVAC/R systems, pointing out there is the potential for human health and other risks with products that have not been specifically registered for such uses, stating, "We are particularly concerned about this possibility because the Agency has not assessed the potential exposure and risks to building occupants or applicators from the use of these products in or on any surfaces that are part of HVAC/R systems in circumstances where the labels do not specifically authorize use in HVAC/R systems. Also, the Agency has not assessed whether such products are efficacious when used in HVAC/R systems.'
Mr. Baker was chosen to chair this session because he has been a long-time advocate of manufacturers responsibly marketing their products based on their EPA registration. BBJ MicroBiocide is specifically registered with the EPA for use in HVAC/R systems. BBJ MicroBiocide's label reflects the fact that it has been registered for use in HVAC/R systems and the label contains clear directions for those uses.
The Panel will discuss the letter and its impact on the Indoor Environmental Community as well as the steps that EPA is taking to see that additional products are reviewed and legally registered for sale in the U.S. if found to be safe and effective for HVAC/R uses.
BBJ Environmental Solutions, Inc. develops, manufactures and markets products that eliminate air contamination in heating, ventilating, air- conditioning and refrigeration systems anywhere they are used (health care facilities, office buildings, residential homes, schools, governmental facilities, transportation vehicles, food plants, etc.).
