FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
World Computer Exchange keeps used computers out of landfills, giving them new life helping to educate the youth of under-developed countries.
CALIFORNIA, PALO ALTO, Apr. 18 -/E-Wire/-- 'PCs for Peace'--Silicon Valley's unique solution. Donate used, working computer equipment destined for shipment to the world's poorest schools -- April 27th and 28th at three convenient Bay Area locations.
'PCs for Peace'-- the first public event hosted by the World Computer Exchange (WCE)-- gives Bay Area residents a convenient and tax-deductible way to contribute their used, but working computers, monitors, and accessories to support students in Asia, Africa and Latin America. WCE seeks caring Bay Area residents and companies to support 'PCs for Peace' to help the world's poorest youth bridge the disturbing global divides in information, technology and understanding.
Though thousands of computers have already been donated, the volunteers of WCE seek the support of caring individuals and corporations to fill containers for promised shipments to connect schools in Bangladesh, India, Guatemala, Nigeria, Mozambique, and Uzbekistan. Donations can be brought to the following three locations where volunteers will test the equipment, provide receipts for tax deductions, and pack the computers for immediate shipment to Bangladesh or India:
PCs for Peace: Saturday and Sunday, April 27th & 28th, 9am - 4 pm
Oakland: Eastlake YMCA, 1612 45th Ave., Oakland - YMCA Parking Lot
San Francisco: City College of San Francisco, 50 Phelan Ave., San Francisco - Parking Lot B adjacent to Ocean Ave.
Mountain View: ABC Storage, 2488 Wyandotte St., Mountain View - Parking Lot.
Details and event location maps are provided on www.pcsforpeace.org. Computers must be working and at least 50 MHz so that the schools can use them to connect to the Internet.
"Millions of used computers that are still working end-up in US landfills every year. These computers could have new lives providing many years of service to new users who currently have no access to computers or the Internet," says WCE President Timothy Anderson.
About the World Computer Exchange WCE was recently selected by the World Economic Forum as one of six educational IT organizations in the world that merits the support of its corporate members. It has relationships with the UN, USAID, and hundreds of schools that are ready to install adopted computers in environments where young students can use them to expand their knowledge and skills, be exposed to other cultures, and develop relationships with students at sister schools in the United States. In many cases, WCE sites are the first Internet access facilities in those communities. WCE leverages the resources of businesses, strategic allies, volunteers, and youth community service programs to provide its partners with the equipment, software, consulting, sister-schools, and content that they need. WCE helps them succeed in preparing their schools, teachers, and students to use the Internet as a bridge to information, resources, educational materials, and opportunities.
