The Skeptical Environmentalist vs. Scientific American: The New Environmentalist Takes Up Sides

The New Environmentalist Lends Its Support to 'Critical Thinking' And

'Common Sense,' and Publishes a Rebuttal to Scientific American Article

CALIFORNIA, EL DORADO HILLS, May. 2 -/E-Wire/-- When "Old-line Environmentalists" pull out all the stops to go on the attack it's usually because something has shaken their world. That "earthquake" is "The Skeptical Environmentalist," a 540-page analysis "Measuring the Real State of the World," by Bjorn Lomborg. In January 2002, Scientific American published a scathing article attacking Lomborg and many of the book's conclusions. Their refusal to allow Lomborg an opportunity to respond is unscientific and un-American.

"Since Lomborg was not allowed the opportunity to respond in-kind, we are lending our support by publishing his rebuttal in our May issue," said publisher Ray Rasmussen. "We were inspired to take a more aggressive approach on this issue after reading Patrick Moore's comments on his website, www.greenspirit.com. We're just doing our part to help improve the quality of our environment. As always, the first step is to get to the truth. Without that, all efforts are wasted."

Lomborg's book, "The Skeptical Environmentalist," looks at the current state of the planet and takes issue with the many sensational claims made by the environmental movement over the years. Using data from government organizations such as the US EPA and the United Nations, he points out that in most areas, environmental quality is improving. People are living longer, healthier and more prosperous lives, which is contrary to what many of these groups would like us to believe.

The May issue of The New Environmentalist also features articles on the Global Warming debate, and an article by Patrick Moore entitled, "Trees Are The Answer," a look at trees as the best resource on the planet.

The New Environmentalist is an online magazine and resource center dedicated to promoting balanced living located at www.thenewenvironmentalist.com. The site features a comprehensive range of environmental tips, calculators for assessing energy use and research categories. The New Environmentalist also produces a monthly online magazine covering the latest developments in renewable energies, governmental issues, new technologies and products, and community involvement.
