Astris Energi Reports Discussions Under Way with Nine Foreign Fuel Cell Prospects

CANADA, ONTARIO, MISSISSAUGA, Jun. 14 -/E-Wire/-- Astris Energi Inc. (OTCBB:ASRNF), pioneering developers of alkaline fuel cells for use in small vehicles, homes, and other applications, reported today that discussions are continuing with nine potential joint venture partners or customers in six different countries, most of which were former partners with England's ZeTek Power Plc, the only other manufacturer of alkaline fuel cells, which recently declared bankruptcy.

"All these concerns -- in England, Scotland, Norway, Italy and New Zealand -- are committed to alkaline technology and have developed systems that were to be powered by ZeTek fuel cells," said Jiri K. Nor, president of Astris. "But since those power sources are no longer available, they have initiated discussions with Astris as a possible provider of the fuel cells they need."

Another foreign prospect, a major industrial concern in India, has been in frequent contact with Astris management for several months, Nor said, adding that a representative of that company visited Astris headquarters in Mississauga for meetings earlier this week.

Of special interest to such system integrators are Astris' 2.5 kilowatt alkaline fuel cells which can power golf cars, neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs) and other people and material movers, and its 4 kilowatt cell which can provide electricity and heat for individual homes, small business structures and boats, both of which have been in operation for more than a year.

All are noiseless, odourless and emit no pollutants to the atmosphere.
