Audubon of Florida Invites Birders to Participate in a Statewide Bird-a-thon
Saturday, March 24th & 31st 2001
FLORIDA, MIAMI, Feb. 28 -/E-Wire/-- Mark your calendars for fun in the great outdoors during Audubon of Florida's Birdathon 2001, Saturdays, March 24th & 31st. Not only will you be participating in guided tours of natural areas across the state, but you will also be assisting in protecting Florida's natural treasures.
In Florida, March marks the beginning of spring migration for many magnificent bird species. This year, we are holding our 2nd annual statewide Bird-a-thon in regions across the state. The event begins as early as 5:00am on both Saturdays, March 24th & 31st, and will conclude around dark, although serious birders will continue to listen for nocturnal birds throughout the evening.
Bird-a-thon 2001 is Audubon of Florida's largest fundraiser of the year. Like a traditional marathon, participants ask for pledges or donations for sponsorship, but instead of pledging a certain amount per mile, Bird-a-thon pledges are per species of bird seen or just a flat donation. Citizens can participate in one of our regional Bird-a-thons, or choose to sponsor one of our regional teams listed below:

Audubon of Florida's headquarters in Miami will also be sponsoring a Bird-a-thon Festival at Everglades National Park on March 31st. Inner-city children will have the opportunity to learn about the environment and why natural habitats are so important. This is only possible because of those Corporations and individuals that donate their time and resources. The festival will be coordinated out of the Miami office. If you would like to sponsor a child please contact our office or write to Erin Petra, 444 Brickell Avenue, Suite 850, Miami, Florida 33131.
Funds raised from Birdathon 2001 will help Audubon preserve wildlife habitat in Florida and provide educational programs to thousands of schoolchildren throughout the state.
