Raytek Launches Intrinsically Safe Noncontact "Point and Shoot" Thermometer

Professional Model ST80-IS Provides Safety in Hazardous Locations

CALIFORNIA, SANTA CRUZ, Feb. 28 -/E-Wire/-- Raytek® Corporation, a worldwide leader in portable noncontact thermometry, is now shipping its high-performance ST(TM)80 Intrinsically Safe (ST80-IS) ProPlus thermometer with key features added to safely allow its use in dangerous, potentially explosive, or flammable environments. The new model has received Factory Mutual (FM) approval as an intrinsically safe device in Class I, Division 1, Groups A, B, C, D and Class I, zone 0, AEXia IIC, T4 at 50C when used with a 9v alkaline battery.

The presence of gases in certain environments can ignite explosions. Intrinsically safe devices can prevent explosions in hazardous locations by limiting the energy and surface temperature of the device under normal operation, or when conditions arise that could become hazardous. Devices are approved as intrinsically safe by completing and passing a rigorous approval process. Factory Mutual is one of the most recognized organizations granting intrinsically safe designations in North America and is also accepted in many parts of the world.

Industries that will benefit from the ST80-IS noncontact thermometer include petrochemical refineries and tank farms; oil exploration, especially offshore rigs; petroleum and gas pumping stations; chemical/pharmaceutical plants, fire departments when flammable gases are present; hazardous waste disposal and sewage; aviation fueling and maintenance as well as rail, auto and ship refueling; liquid natural gas storage; arms manufacturing and storage; hydrogen generating facilities; boiler rooms; and ink, laminate, and coating processes that emit volatile vapors.

The suggested list price for the new ST80-IS is $649 and includes a Resistance Temperature Device (RTD) probe.

The ST80-IS model also provides the following:

* A sealed battery compartment to prevent sparks in highly dangerous and hazardous locations.

* "Best in Class' optical performance with a distance to spot ratio of 50-to-1.

* A -25 to 1400(Degree)F(-32 to 760(Degree)C) temperature range.

* Rubber overmolding to withstand rough handling.

* An 8-point circular laser that estimates the measured area to be measured at any distance.

* Data logging capabilities to collect and hold temperatures at 12 different locations.

* A probe jack to verify temperature measurements with a contact probe.

Raytek, the worldwide leader in the infrared temperature measurement industry, designs, manufactures, and markets a complete line temperature measurement instruments for industrial, maintenance, and quality control applications. Headquartered in Santa Cruz, California, Raytek distributes its products worldwide with subsidiaries in Germany, France, UK, Japan, China, Mexico, and Brazil.
