Endangered Species Bill Protects Property Rights
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, WASHINGTON, Jul. 10 -/E-Wire/-- The American Land Rights Association (ALRA) has endorsed HR 4840, which makes important improvements to the process of listing species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).
The bill will require showing a scientific reason for requesting that a species be listed, and requires federal agencies to look at all the data available, not just what they choose to look at in order to accomplish a pre-programmed agenda.
Proposed improvements to the ESA listing process include: a) a preference for field tested and peer reviewed data, b) including historical context such as population trends, ranges, and fluctuations, c) including data from all sources, not just what they choose to accept, d) independent scientific review, e) public access to the listing process.
"Using good science combined with public disclosure sounds like common sense to any reasonable person. But the environmental movement is neither reasonable nor rational. It depends on hysteria, emotion and false information to force its agenda on others. They oppose this bill because it will shut down their scam machine," said ALRA Executive Director Chuck Cushman.
"I would like to thank Congressmen Richard Pombo, Greg Walden and the many others who continue to work on improvements to the ESA. The ESA has become a tool for attacking private property rights and installing federal zoning control. It's credibility has been severely damaged by leftwing activists both inside and outside the government bureaucracies who use falsified data and lawsuits to hurt people without helping plant or animal species," concluded Cushman.
