EMLab Receives AIHA Accreditation For Mold and Bacterial Analysis
CALIFORNIA, SAN BRUNO, Aug. 6 -/E-Wire/-- Environmental Microbiology Laboratory, Inc. (EMLab) announced today that it has received accreditation by the American Industrial Hygiene Association's (AIHA) EMLAP program for environmental microbiology. EMLab is one of the leading indoor air quality (IAQ) laboratories providing analysis of mold and bacterial samples in North America. This accreditation applies to the analysis of mold and bacteria, and covers the company's Northern California laboratory near San Francisco.
EMLAP refers to the Environmental Microbiology Laboratory Accreditation Program administered by the AIHA. This program is designed specifically for laboratories specializing in analysis of microorganisms commonly detected in air, fluids and bulk samples as part of IAQ investigations. Since important health and financial decisions will be based on the results of these analyses, it is vital that the laboratory analyzing the samples be proficient in producing high quality data. The AIHA accreditation is a mark of this capability.
Environmental Microbiology Laboratory has distinguished itself in the field of indoor air quality. During the last 30 years, its founder, Janet Gallup, has co-authored numerous publications, one of which was the first published report of Stachybotrys found in a family dwelling in 1980. Currently, Ms. Gallup is chairman of the Pan American Aerobiology Association's (PAAA) committee for the certification of spore counters.
EMLab has only degreed analysts, the majority with Masters or Ph.D.'s in mycology, microbiology or related field. Every member of the EMLab team is committed to the principle of providing high quality analysis and service on time, every time. The staff routinely performs blind duplicate comparisons among its analysts to assure consistent, reliable and provable analysis quality. EMLab's mission is focused on having the best quality and training in the IAQ industry.
Dr. Harriet Burge, EMLab's Director of Aerobiology, is widely considered to be the leading expert in Indoor Air Quality, and pioneered mold investigations in indoor environments. She has served as a member of three National Academy of Sciences committees for indoor air quality, including as vice-chair of the Committee on the Health Effects of Indoor Allergens, and is currently chairing the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Damp Buildings and Health.
Dr. Burge serves on the Board of Directors of the New England Chapter of the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Allergy and Immunology and the American College of Allergy and Immunology and was a member of the ASHRAE Standard 62 (Ventilation for Indoor Air Quality) Committee. She has published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers on bioaerosols, fungi and respiratory health, and is the author of several books relating to allergies and air quality.
EMLab is headquartered in the San Francisco bay area, with additional lab operations near San Diego, California. It specializes in the analysis of molds, yeasts and bacteria, including Legionella and E. coli, as well as dust mites and airborne allergens.
The company's clients include IAQ professionals, Federal, State and local health departments, NIOSH, law firms, insurance companies, environmental consultants, industrial hygienists, mold remediators, property managers, home inspectors, schools, hospitals, allergists, and HVAC professionals.
