Duratek Signs Technology License Expansion Agreement With Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.

MARYLAND, COLUMBIA, Aug. 14 -/E-Wire/Business Wire/-- Duratek, Inc. (NASDAQ:DRTK) today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to expand their existing license for patented Steam Reforming technology with Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (IHI). This ten year license provides IHI with the exclusive right to use Duratek's Steam Reforming Intellectual Property for any feed material in Japan, building upon the previous agreement signed in 2000 for the development, manufacture, sale, and operation of Steam Reforming systems for processing radioactive and mixed waste. Duratek has granted this license for an undisclosed fee, and will continue to provide technical, engineering, and consulting services under separate agreement.

IHI, established in 1853, is a multi-national leader in providing energy and chemical plants, physical distribution systems and steel structures, aero-engine and space technology, industrial machinery, shipbuilding and marine engineering, and mass-produced machinery. With annual net sales of nearly $9 billion (U.S. dollars) and more than 14,000 employees, IHI is well positioned to establish Steam Reforming in Japan. IHI's Yokohama Engineering Center will continue to be responsible for the implementation of their Steam Reforming operations.

Robert E. Prince, Duratek's President and CEO, said, "We are pleased that IHI has chosen to expand their use of our unique Steam Reforming technology for application in the Japanese marketplace. Duratek has been impressed with IHI's implementation of Steam Reforming under our earlier license, and is confident that they can employ this powerful waste-processing tool in nonradioactive arenas as well."

Duratek provides services and implements technologies for protecting people from radiation and the environment from radioactive materials.
