Bill McKibben will keynote a conference hosted in Portland, Oregon

geared toward providing those interested in speaking about climate

change with the tools to effectively do so. Are you interested in attending?

Green House Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to public education about the need for urgent action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, is seeking individuals from across the United States who wish to join our National Speaker Network, and/or help build a National Writer's Network.

This training session is limited to 25 people.

Comprised of 120+ volunteer speakers, our speakers have given over 425 public presentations about the causes, impacts and solutions to global climate change.

In exchange for the training, each individual will commit to:

1) Give at least 5 speeches on campuses, at faith for business groups, or other community venues in their region, OR 2) Publish at least 10 pieces of journalism, editorials, or letters to the editor on climate issues.

In addition, volunteers are encouraged to arrange a meeting with regional political or opinion leader to discuss climate policy

Presentations by our speaker's network are set up, coordinated and publicized by Green House Network staff. Thus, the commitment on the part of the speakers is limited to the actual delivery of 5 presentations over the course of Fall-Spring 2002-2003, and the meeting with a regional political or opinion leader.

Participants should have an initial, broad familiarity with the global warming issue. The workshop will provide more detailed scientific, political, and economic information, assistance in the preparation of an effective 30-minute presentation, and information on how to set up meetings with political leaders. Past participants have included college professors, scientists, executives, artists, engineers, clergy members, retirees, nurses, architects, and graduate students.

– Food, lodging and materials are provided. – Transit is not provided. – $85.00 registration fee. – Scholarships are available.

Your application should include:

1) A brief letter stating the reason for your interest, as well as any experience you have had in public speaking or organizing. Please also indicate any scholarship requests. 2) A curriculum vitae or resume. 3) Five schools/faith/business group venues in your region where a global warming presentation would have the biggest impact. 4) E-mail address for follow-up correspondence. 5) An indication of whether or not you intend to speak or write on climate change issues.
