Mayor of Panama City, Panama, to Address Environmental and Conservation Issues
TEXAS, FORT WORTH, Mar. 2 -/E-Wire/-- Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT) to Present International Award of Excellence to the Honorable Juan Carlos Navarro, Mayor of Panama City, capital of the Republic of Panama, on Wednesday, March 7, 2001, in Fort Worth, Texas, for his accomplishments in conservation.
What/Where: News Briefing with Mayor Navarro; 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 7; BRIT, 509 Pecan Street; award presentation at dinner, 7:15 p.m., Renaissance Worthington Hotel, 200 Main Street.
Who/Why: The 39-year-old Mayor Navarro is widely respected for his achievements in and commitment to conservation and ecological restoration. He has been the recipient of many honors, including being selected as one of the most promising Latin American leaders for the new millennium by Time magazine and CNN.
Mayor Navarro said, "I am accepting this award on behalf of the Panamanian people and of people throughout the world who are dedicated to conserving the world's resources. I don't think there is a more important task on Earth than protecting nature. If we don't, future generations will never, never forgive us. It is up to us now, each individual, to do everything we can to protect this amazing treasure, the natural heritage of the world."
He is well known as the founding director of the National Association for the Conservation of Nature (ANCON), Panama's leading independent nonprofit, environmental organization.
