ARCADIS Acquires Patented Technology for Remediation of Metals Pollution
COLORADO, DENVER, Oct. 4 -/E-Wire/Business Wire/-- ARCADIS (NASDAQ: ARCAF, EURONEXT: ARCAD) announced today that it has acquired the technology assets of the mining and metals technology company known as Green World Science(R). This strategic niche acquisition further solidifies ARCADIS' position in the mining and metals remediation market and positions the firm to expand market share in this industry sector. The acquisition of the Green World Science(R) technology assets creates a powerful synergy with both firms' complementary patented technologies for the immobilization of metals.
ARCADIS' patented technologies include in-situ methods for removing dissolved heavy metals, chlorinated solvents and nitrates from groundwater. The newly acquired patented technology of Green World Science(R) immobilizes metals in heap leach stacks, restores in situ aquifers in the uranium industry and can treat large water bodies such as pit lakes. Green World Science(R) also holds two new patents for the prevention of acid mine drainage from rock heaps and underground mine workings. The combination of these patented technologies enables ARCADIS' to expand its services to the remediation market. Additionally, it allows ARCADIS to expand its Guaranteed Remediation Program (GRiP(TM)) for mining and metals clients.
"With the increased needs for cash collateral and liability containment, the mining industry has an increased demand for technology to remediate sites concurrently during the mining process. The combined Green World Science(R) and ARCADIS technologies solves this urgent need for pollution prevention and treatment," stated Joseph Harrington, Vice President of ARCADIS.
Steve Blake, member of the Executive Board for ARCADIS commented, "This acquisition fits well with existing activities and provides access to an attractive new market segment. I see this acquisition as an important step in the development and diversification of our remediation business."
