FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ARCADIS Designs Extension for Charleroi / Brussels South Airport
EUROPE, Oct. 31 -/E-Wire/Business Wire/-- ARCADIS (Nasdaq:ARCAF; Euronext:ARCAD) announced today that its subsidiary, GEDAS, is part of a multidisciplinary consortium that will realize the extension of the airport Charleroi - Brussels South on behalf of the Societe Wallone des Aeroports (SOWAER).
Design activities will start this fall and the project is expected to be finalized by the end of 2004. The overall order sum for the design amounts to EUR 3 million.
The airport of Charleroi is experiencing a period of explosive growth. The number of passengers passing through this airport amounted to 250,000 in the year 2000, but this volume is expected to increase to 2 to 3 million passengers in the coming years. A new terminal at the northern side of the airport with a minimum capacity of 3 million passengers will be needed to provide room to the growing flow of passengers. ARCADIS and its partners are responsible for the project management, project planning, basic and detailed design, permits application and construction supervision.
Michiel Jaski, member of the Executive Board of ARCADIS NV comments: "This project emphasizes the solid position ARCADIS holds in the field of complex infrastructure projects. Moreover, it is a good example of how our expertise in airports can also be of added value to our Belgian clients".
The combination of ARCADIS and the other partners was selected because besides conceptual and technical aspects, this team also focuses on commercial exploitation of the passenger terminal. Here, the international experience the team members have with other airports is a great advantage.
