Delaware North Announces GreenPath
Environmental Conservation Program Will Protect National and State Parks
NEW YORK, BUFFALO, Mar. 5 -/E-Wire/-- In an effort to preserve the national and state parks where it provides hospitality services, Buffalo, N.Y.-based Delaware North Parks Services has announced GreenPath, an environmental management program aimed at protecting the natural resources of the parks. The company plans to use Yosemite National Park, Sequoia National Park and Asilomar Conference Grounds in California, as well as the Grand Canyon to launch GreenPath, eventually bringing the program to all of its venues.
At Asilomar, a state-owned historic conference facility outside of Monterey, California, approximately 70 changes have been implemented in the name of GreenPath. Ranging from printing internal documents on both sides of the paper to revising the hazardous materials control and minimization program, the ideas touch all aspects of the facility's operation.
In essence, GreenPath will allow Delaware North Parks Services to focus on and expand its award-winning recycling, waste reduction and energy conservation practices. The company recently received the Waste Reduction Awards Program of the Year award from the California Environmental Protection Agency for its work at Yosemite. Furthermore, by formalizing and articulating GreenPath and establishing guidelines at the venues, Delaware North Parks Services has the ability to carry it to the corporate headquarters and other subsidiaries of its parent company, Delaware North Companies Inc.
Key elements of the program include:
* Incorporation of environmental considerations into all business decisions; * Continuous promotion of ecologically sound values through the development of educational programs, interpretive modules, and communication strategies directed at associates, guests, suppliers, nearby communities, regulatory agencies, and all others who are part of our business; * Dedication to sustainable systems including the use of recycling programs and other practices to achieve reductions in the generation, discharge and emission of waste; * Programs to anticipate and respond to future environmental requirements and issues; and * Allocation and maintenance of consistent and reliable financial and human resources to effectively implement environmental management and compliance programs.
According to Delaware North Parks Services President Dennis Szefel, the impetus for GreenPath came from the staff. "When we first set out to procure concessions contracts in national and state parks, we were profoundly impressed not only by the singular beauty and grandeur of these settings, but also by the fragility of their ecosystems. From the very beginning, we have understood our responsibility to protect these special places," Szefel said.
Delaware North Parks Services is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delaware North Companies Inc., a privately owned international company headquartered in Buffalo, N.Y. that specializes in foodservice, recreation and hospitality management. The parks subsidiary was established in 1993 following the company's winning its first contract at Yosemite. Delaware North Companies Inc. has been in business for 85 years.
