World's First Organic Roses Debut At Whole Foods Markets

CALIFORNIA, NOVATO, Dec. 10 -/E-Wire/-- Organic Bouquet Inc., the nation's leading organic flower provider, introduced the world's first commercial crop of certified organic roses recently at 19 Whole Foods Markets, Southern California stores. Twenty colorful rose varieties, imported from Ecuador, retailed for $16.99 per dozen.

"Organic flowers are a significant new development for our floral department which we plan to expand as supply is available. Organic flowers are important because they are good for farm workers, the environment and our florists are happy to handle them," Stated Martin Magadan, Whole Foods floral buyer for the 19 Southern California stores, who was first in the country to secure the organic roses for his stores.

Magadan further commented: "Our customers expect to find the best environmental alternatives when they shop at Whole Foods Markets. We are here to make that happen and are committed and proud to be the leader in organic flowers and plants."

Organic Bouquet Inc. established in January 2001 is credited for introducing the natural product industries newest category Organic Floral. The Company's primary organic flower growers are located in California and Oregon. In addition, the company has organized a regionally diverse network of growers in several countries to assure year round supplies for this burgeoning new market.

Why Organic flowers, we don't eat them? "There is more to organic than healthy foods," says Organic Bouquet co-founder and CEO Gerald Prolman. "Organic flowers address the main purpose of organic production, which is to enrich the soil and produce crops in a responsible manner. Overall, organic floral production encourages healthy stewardship of the earth."

Do organic flowers cost more? According to Organic Bouquet co-founder and President Dave Smith, "Price is always a question of supply and demand, but the big-picture answer is that, beyond the price tag, there are hidden costs associated with non-organic production, specifically the potential negative impact to the environment and to the health of farm workers. So, whether or not organic is a bit higher in price, as a true value, it is always a much better deal any way you look at it."

Smith declares: "Organic flowers say 'I care about you, and I care about the earth!"
