GE Consumer Products Celebrates Earth Day

Reaffirms its Commitment to ENERGY STAR® Products

KENTUCKY, LOUISVILLE, Mar. 26 -/E-Wire/-- How are you celebrating Earth Day? GE Consumer Products is celebrating the day, established over 30 years ago to recognize and pay tribute to our environment, by renewing its commitment to ENERGY STAR. ENERGY STAR is a program of the U.S. Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that recognizes products meeting guidelines for energy efficiency and pollution reduction.

GE's commitment is demonstrated by its investments in ENERGY STAR products across a broad range of both appliance and lighting product lines. In fact, as a result of a continuing investment of more than $1 billion in new products, GE Consumer Products offers more than 234 models of ENERGY STAR qualified products across six appliance product lines and three lighting product lines.

So extensive is GE's ENERGY STAR lighting product offering that the U.S. EPA named GE Lighting a 2002 Partner of the Year.

"GE Consumer Products is committed to providing both today's consumer and future generations of consumers the highest quality, most innovative and most energy-efficient products, " explained James Campbell, president and CEO of GE Consumer Products. "This strategy benefits our consumers, the environment and it's good for our business and the industry."

Clothes Care: GE offers five ENERGY STAR-qualified washer models. Launching this June will be the GE Profile Harmony™ Clothes Care System, which matches water levels to load size, resulting in water and energy savings. Harmony uses up to 40 percent less water than a traditional top load machine and 47 percent less energy.

Lighting Products: Fully 85% of GE screw-in compact florescent lamp (CFL) products have received the ENERGY STAR designation. GE Lighting offers 108 ENERGY STAR-qualified lighting and home electric products that are up to 77 percent more efficient than standard incandescent bulbs.

Refrigerators: Refrigerators are the single biggest energy consumer in most households. GE offers a total of 56 ENERGY STAR-qualified refrigerator models of all configurations, including the award-winning GE Profile Arctica™ refrigerator. These units offer such innovations in product design as variable speed compressors and more efficient fan motors. Dishwashers: Currently, 50 GE dishwasher models are ENERGY STAR-qualified. Among the new dishwasher models are the GE Profile™ built-in dishwashers with stainless steel interiors, "America's most energy-efficient dishwashers," based on comparison of energy usage data submitted to the Federal Government by dishwasher manufacturers. . GE Consumer Products is an $8.5 billion business unit, providing products and services in the major appliance and lighting industries, manufacturing and selling more than 15 million appliances and 4 billion lamp products annually in over 150 world markets. General Electric (NYSE: GE) brings imagination to work, selling products under the Monogram®, Profile™, GE®, Hotpoint®, SmartWater™, Reveal® and SmartHome™ brands.
