Organic flowers save the Earth
NOVATO, CALIFORNIA, Apr. 21 -/E-Wire/-- This Earth Day, environmentalists and concerned citizens can express their support for the earth and humankind by giving organic flowers.
Organic Bouquet Inc., the nation's leading organic flower provider, has devoted the last two years to organizing a regionally diverse network of organic flower growers, in order to supply the burgeoning natural products market with an alternative to flowers grown with synthetic agrichemicals.
"Organic flowers save the earth by enriching soil productivity. Organic farming does not pollute the earth or leach toxic chemicals into our water systems. Organic farmers leave the earth in better condition than when they started farming. This is the old-fashioned way of farming. Growing flowers organically is safer for farmers and farm workers and is good for the environment," says Company co-founder and CEO Gerald Prolman.
Organic floral is the newest category in the $230 billion LOHAS market (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability). According to Dr. Paul Ray co-author of The Cultural Creatives, there are 50 million people in America who make environmental based purchase decisions. Organic Bouquet was established to meet that demand.
Prior to the formation of Organic Bouquet there were no commercial organic floral supplies sufficient to service a national market. In addition, industry and consumer awareness of the need for organic flowers was minimal.
Organic Bouquet was formed in January 2001 with the goal to establish the market for organic flowers. The Company accomplished this by encouraging major growers to initiate organic production that is marketed under the Organic Bouquet brand, while concurrently broadly publicizing the need for organic flowers to the trade and public. Information about: Why Organic Flowers? can be found on the Company's website OrganicBouquet.com.
Retailers including Whole Foods Markets, Wild Oats Markets, and Trader Joe's were among the first to carry the Company's organic tulips, roses, bouquets and potted plants. Consumers can also order organic flowers directly online at OrganicBouquet.com.
"Organic flowers are a significant new development for our floral department which we plan to expand as supply is available. Organic flowers are important because they are good for farm workers, the environment and our florists are happy to handle them." Stated Martin Magadan, floral buyer for 19 Southern California Whole Foods stores.
Magadan further commented: "Our customers expect to find the best environmental alternatives when they shop at Whole Foods Markets. We are here to make that happen and are committed and proud to be a leader in organic flowers"
"Earth day is about the taking care of the soil we live on and live from. Organic floral production encourages healthy stewardship of the earth and is part of one movement towards a better world." affirms company co-founder and president Dave Smith; formerly of the Smith & Hawken garden tool catalog Company.
"The future of agriculture exists in the utilization of sustainable farming practices that are environmentally and socially sound. Organic production systems clearly lead the way to this new standard."
