SEPA's New Database Recognizes Commercial Solar Electric Systems

DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, WASHINGTON, Apr. 28 -/E-Wire/-- The Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) announced today the development of a new database, the Commercial Solar Electric Installation Inventory (Inventory), to provide information on commercial, industrial, institutional and utility owned or sited solar electric systems and to recognize the leadership of those companies that have chosen to run their facilities using solar electric power. Solar electric power is the ultimate distributed, clean electric resource, helping to offset peak electricity demand, and providing environmentally benign energy.

The Inventory will compile submissions from the U.S. and around the world, recording installations to measure progress against the SEPA objective of increasing the penetration of on-grid and off-grid use of solar electric power. Large or otherwise significant installations will be recognized at SEPA's Annual Member Award's Ceremony at its UPEx Conference and Exhibition, October 7-10, 2003 in Scottsdale, Arizona, and annually thereafter.

SEPA is now collecting information for the Inventory at http://www.solarelectricpower.org/installation_inventory/. All information submitted will be publicly available on the website. Submissions for this database must be consistent with the following criteria and contain the required information to ensure that the data is accurate and relevant:

1. Commercial, industrial, institutional or utility solar electric installations at a single site, anywhere in the world

2. Data requested (* indicates a required field): --- Grid connected or off-grid * --- System size (kWac)* --- System type (roof mounted, ground mounted, single axis tracking, etc.)* --- Cell manufacturer(s) --- Module manufacturer(s)* --- Inverter manufacturer* --- Operational date* --- Installation company --- Owner of solar electric system --- Facility powered by solar electric system* --- Local electric utility --- Location (city, state/province, country)* --- Contact information (name, telephone, email)* --- Brief narrative on project such as financing or buy-down used, benefits expected, purpose of system, energy efficiency measures employed, or other elements of the story behind the project. --- Link to a press release or website

SEPA reserves the right to delete or modify information submitted if SEPA finds it to be inaccurate. SEPA requests that the public use the online submission form, located at http://www.solarelectricpower.org/installation_inventory/, to provide missing information and comments on the database.

This initiative is a cooperative effort with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Green Power Partnership, the U.S. Department of Energy, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Solar Energy Industries Association, and the Interstate Renewable Energy Council.

Based in Washington, D.C., SEPA works with energy service providers and solar electric industry leaders to help make solar power a mainstream element of energy service business strategies. SEPA helps to establish standards for solar electric systems and their interconnection to the utility grid, hosts cross-industry workshops, and manages educational and outreach campaigns. The association serves as a full-service clearinghouse for information on solar electricity.

SEPA's membership includes 120 energy service providers; utilities; utility associations; solar electric module and component manufacturers; installers, integrators, and distributors; government agencies; research organizations; and educational institutions from eight countries.
