National Conference of Black Mayors Honors Waste Management Inc. With President's Award

HOUSTON, TEXAS, May. 6 -/E-Wire/Business Wire/-- The National Conference of Black Mayors Inc. (NCBM) recently presented its annual President's Award to the environmental services company Waste Management Inc. (NYSE:WMI). This award recognized Waste Management for the company's continuing support for the work of the organization and its assistance with the programs of the nation's black mayors.

The award was presented to Waste Management by Mayor Marilyn Murrell of Arcadia, Okla., national president of NCBM the Conference, at the president's lunch during the organization's 29th Annual Convention held in Houston. "Waste Management is the leader in its industry, and it has been a leader in supporting America's black mayors and our conference," Mayor Murrell said. "The company has demonstrated that it is a valued partner to many cities whose mayors play influential roles in our organization. Waste Management provides critically important municipal garbage collection and disposal services to the public sector, and it serves 75 communities whose mayors are African-American. We appreciate the company's contributions to our communities and are grateful for their support and partnership with us."

A. Maurice Meyers, chairman, president and chief executive officer, accepted the award on behalf of the company. Waste Management is a member of the NCBM's Corporate Advisory Council. "Many members of the National Conference of Black Mayors are Waste Management's customers," Meyers said in accepting the award. "We understand your challenges, and we want you to know we strive to be your partners in helping you serve your communities. We share your concerns and interests in serving your residents, employing your citizens and supporting your community organizations. In many communities, our driver-watch programs provide an extra set of eyes and ears to enhance your security. For Waste Management, our commitment is about partnership. In accepting this award, I want you to know that we are truly honored. On behalf of the people of Waste Management, thank you very much."
