FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Solar Associations Announce Partnership on Conference:
Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano to speak
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, WASHINGTO, Jun. 3 -/E-Wire/-- The Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA) announced today that the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) will join SEPA in developing and conducting UPEx 2003: The Solar Power Experience Conference and Exhibition to achieve a single solar trade show.
UPEx 2003, to be held in Scottsdale, Arizona on October 7 to 10, 2003, is designed to address the removal of barriers, the development of solar business models, the expansion of government support at the federal and state levels, and the development of robust state and federal programs for solar deployment.
Arizona and the southwest are rich in state programs and incentives, an abundant solar resource, and a utility, business, consumer and government interest in this clean energy resource, providing a unique opportunity for cooperation between the two associations.
The Honorable Governor Janet Napolitano of the State of Arizona will to speak at the opening session on October 8, 2003. In addition, UPEx'03 will feature leading-edge green technologies and focus on topics of interest to a broad audience including: electric utilities; government agencies; manufacturers of solar electric panels, inverters and other system components; builders; architects; and students.
"Solar is a growth industry in Arizona and nationwide and I'm thrilled that SEIA is involved in UPEx '03," said Glenn Hamer, Executive Director of the Solar Energy Industries Association. "Solar electric systems and other renewable energy technologies are experiencing both escalating public interest and large increases in manufacturing capacity at the same time that we are recognizing a growing role for renewable energy to help meet national and global energy demands," affirmed Jeff Serfass, General Manager of SEPA. "This year's UPEx will be an exciting time for us to bring our experiences together to expand solar business."
This 8th annual conference is being hosted by Salt River Project, a leading electric utility in deployment of solar power, both as a green power option for its customers and for its own energy supply. Other lead cosponsors of UPEx'03 are Kyocera Solar, Commonwealth Edison, Arizona Public Service, First Solar, National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Tucson Electric Power, and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. More than 400 energy service provider, photovoltaic industry, finance, government, building and research professionals are expected to attend the UPEx'03 Conference and Exhibition. SEPA also plans activities to attract university students in the region and middle/high school students as well.
Since its inception in 1996, UPEx has proven to be an important resource for utilities, energy service providers, PV companies, and other businesses interested in using solar electric power to deliver customer-preferred solar energy.
Based in Washington, D.C., SEPA works with energy service providers and PV industry leaders to help identify and communicate the value proposition and business models for solar power for utilities, the PV industry, customers, and all stakeholders. SEPA helps its members improve their solar business through these activities. SEPA's membership includes 130 energy service providers; utilities; utility associations; photovoltaic module and component manufacturers; PV installers, integrators, and distributors; government agencies; research organizations; and educational institutions from eight countries. SEPA was formerly known as the Utility PhotoVoltaic Group.
SEIA is the national trade association of solar energy manufacturers, dealers, distributors, contractors, installers, architects, consultants, and marketers, concerned with expanding the use of solar technologies in the global marketplace. SEIA's membership is made up of more than 400 companies, with chapters in 22 states -- including Arizona -- and a growing group of international contacts.
