SeaLife Product Addresses Global Oil Crisis
Revolutionary Anti-Fouling Technology Cuts Maritime Fuel Consumption
CALIFORNIA, CULVER CITY, Jul. 8 -/E-Wire/Business Wire/-- Is it possible that America's reliance on foreign oil can be eased by the coating on the bottom of the nation's ships?
Surprisingly, the answer is "YES."
According to SeaLife Corporation (OTCBB:SLIF), an environmental biotech company and the manufacturer of SeaLife 1000 Anti-foul Paints -- high performance, environmentally safe, anti-foul, anti-corrosive coatings for the commercial maritime industry, the military, and the recreational boat owner -- the proper anti-foul marine coating can make a significant impact on our nation's ultimate fuel consumption.
"The toll that marine growth can take on a vessel's performance is remarkable and heretofore relatively unknown. Today, however, as America and other countries look for ways to increase fuel efficiency and reduce their overall energy consumption, it is critical that we take advantage of the potential fuel savings possible within the maritime industry," stated Marika Borofsky, VP of Corporate and Media Communication.
To illustrate her point, Ms. Borofsky cited the following examples:
A barely visible 10 micro/meter (1%) increase in average hull roughness, caused by fouling, for a single ship can equate to as much as 1,700 tons of additional fuel use over the course of one year due to fouling and subsequent frictional surface resistance.
Multiply this figure by 86,613, the number of all merchant marine, Naval and Coast Guard vessels worldwide, and the need for effective anti-foul coatings becomes clear.
Annual consumption of fuel by the world's fleet of ships totals a staggering $18 Billion dollars. A badly fouled hull, for example, can increase fuel consumption by as much as 50%. In fact, a Navy destroyer, after only 6 months in temperate waters suffers a 50% increase in fuel consumption at 10 knots and a badly fouled hull can reduce the top speed obtainable by 2/3rds. It has been estimated that if the U.S. Navy used no anti-fouling paints, their fuel costs would increase by $1 Billion dollars over 10 years.
In addition to fuel consumption, SeaLife Corporation's revolutionary anti-fouling coatings have an equally significant environmental impact.
SeaLife's unique Hydrolysis Reactive Technology along with its propriety formulation finally replace the industry's long term reliance on the highly toxic biocide, Tributyl tin (TBT) for its coatings. As of January 1, 2003, however, coatings containing TBT have been banned globally because they achieved their effectiveness by leaching toxins into the water to kill the organisms attached to the boats' hulls, thereby causing these toxic chemicals to enter the marine food chain, poisoning the fish who feed on those organisms and thus, the entire marine environment. The SeaLife 1000 line of anti-foul coatings was specifically designed to not leach any biocides, pesticides or other toxins into the water, safeguarding the marine environment.
SeaLife is pleased to display its remarkable fuel efficient and environmental product during its participation in the upcoming Marine Aftermarket Accessories Trade Show (MAATS), taking place July 9-11, 2003 at the Las Vegas Hilton Hotel.
Produced by the National Marine Manufacturer's Association (NMMA), in cooperation with National Marine Distributors Association (NMDA) and Sail America, MAATS is the premier aftermarket trade event designed to assemble marine product suppliers and buyers, including buyers representing 90% of the buying volume for accessories in North America. Mass retailers, marine dealerships, cataloguers, U.S. and international marine product distributors, as well as the most influential buyers from key boating markets around the world will attend.
The company expects to capture a substantial share of the highly regulated $8 billion dollar global anti-foul coating market with its proprietary enviro-safe technology, the result of 12 years of research conducted by prominent laboratories in the United States and Europe.
SeaLife Corporation is able to provide its customers with 2003-compliant anti-foul coatings that meet the stringent requirements of The International Maritime Organization (IMO), The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and local EPA agencies, and will continue to introduce new quality products based on its innovative enviro-technology, offering simple, economic solutions to the complex problems of environmental pollution.
