Is Your College or University Campus 'Green'? Helping Higher Education Institutions Adopt Sustainable Ways is Topic of Nationwide October 9 Satellite Telecast, Webcast By The Society for College and University Planning
MICHIGAN, ANN ARBOR, Sep. 17 -/E-Wire/-- The Society for College and University Planning (SCUP), an international society of nearly 5,000 higher education professionals, will host a live, interactive satellite telecast and webcast nationwide from noon to 2:00 p.m. EDT on October 9, 2003, on the topic of environmental sustainability on college campuses.
The two-hour event, titled "Got Sustainability? Plan for It! Making Sustainability a Foundation of Higher Education Learning and Practice," is designed to help leaders in the higher education community, including businesses that support higher education institutions, understand the importance of environmental sustainability and to provide practical ways that colleges and universities can adopt sustainable processes in their teaching, research and operations.
"Colleges and universities need to take a leadership role when it comes to protecting our environment and to teach students to be environmentally sensitive as well. The goal of this telecast is to serve as a catalyst for that discussion," said Jolene Knapp, SCUP's executive director.
Hundreds of campuses across the U.S. and Canada will participate in the event and many plan to host additional activities around the telecast. A list of current licensees is posted online at http://www.scup.org/sustainability/telecast2003.htm. The society hopes to use the telecast to launch an annual event for higher education called National Campus Sustainability Day.
Since 1999, SCUP has focused resources to address sustainability on college campuses, including forming an email discussion list ([REDACTED-EMAIL]) and publishing a special issue of the society's journal, Planning for Higher Education. These efforts have been supported by a member-driven task force on sustainability.
Any college, university, business or organization can purchase a license to broadcast the telecast and webcast. The cost is $295 for SCUP member locations; $395 for nonmember locations.
Since 1966, SCUP has provided its members with the planning knowledge, resources and connections needed to achieve institutional goals. Headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the society serves a diverse member base of public and private institutions, corporate partners, and higher education systems. Visit www.scup.org.
