Aplix, Inc. Announces New Technology – The Injection Molded Hook

Aplix and Inter-Mold Announce Global Alliance to Promote Hooks Created in Plastic Parts for Hook and Loop Fastening Systems

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA, Oct. 20 -/E-Wire/-- Aplix, Inc., a leader in the design and manufacture of hook and loop fasteners, today announced availability of injection molded hook (IMH) technology which eliminates the material and labor costs of attaching hook material to plastic. IMH is a breakthrough patented technology allowing one-step injection molding of hook fasteners directly into plastic parts. It has been successfully commercialized in the medical industry saving millions of dollars.

IMH can be used anywhere hook and loop fasteners are used today. Applications can be found in the automotive, aviation, healthcare, household & mops, sporting goods and furniture.

The process is compatible with a wide range of injection-molded thermoplastics. A number of resins have been tested including polypropylene, polyethylene, nylon, acetal and thermo-plastic urethanes (TPU).

IMH technology is easily implemented and does not require complicated moving parts in the injection mold. New products can be designed to take advantage of IMH or existing tools can be retrofitted with IMH in a matter of weeks.

The benefits of IMH include:

--- Elimination of material cost and attachment labor --- Improved reliability and aesthetics --- Waterproof and chemical resistant --- Green process and environmentally friendly

IMH is covered by a number of worldwide patents from Inter-Mold Corporation, including United States Patent 5,368,549; US Patent RE 37,338; and US Patent 5,656,226. Patents have also been granted in other countries.

"IMH reaffirms Aplix's commitment to providing innovative technologies to the hook and loop marketplace", said Mr. Gerard Billarant, Vice-President, Sales and Marketing of Aplix USA. "We believe the designed-in look spawns a new generation of hook fasteners that will expand the worldwide market for hook and loop fasteners".
