Wavefront Advances Pressure Pulsing in Environmental Applications
TSX-VEN Trading Symbol: WEE
CANADA, Oct. 22 -/E-Wire/-- Wavefront Energy and Environmental Services Inc. (the "Company") develops and implements innovative technologies for fluid flow optimization and process monitoring to meet the unique challenges of our global clients.
In keeping with this goal, the Company is pleased to announce that it successfully applied its pressure pulse technology in the environmental sector with two different applications. The projects, which were completed last year, were subsequent to disclosures in its Information Circular, dated September 17, 2002.
The first application used pressure pulse technology to inject a zero valet iron emulsion that was designed (by the client) to neutralize a contaminant in situ (i.e., in the ground) in a test cell at NASA's Cape Canaveral launch complex 24. Based on the results the client is attempting to access further funding for a larger field-scale operation where the Company's pressure pulse technology will again be used to deliver the emulsion into the subsurface. A project summary site tour was also held in November 2002 for approximately 200 engineers, scientists, and environmental practitioners who were interested in both the use of zero valent iron emulsion and pressure pulse technology as a stand alone technology.
The second application used pressure pulse technology in remediation of a coal tar gas plant, which has been inactive for several decades. The project involved using pressure pulse technology to inject water in the contaminated plume to increase the rate at which the client could pump and remove both the free and dissolved contaminate from the subsurface ground water. Initial application of pressure pulse technology was aggressive as too much water was injected into the formation at too quick of a rate. Subsequent results however, were very encouraging both for the mobilization and the transport of water into zones of varied permeability. It was observed for the first time in the field that pressure pulse technology could lead to increases in flow and fluid distribution in lower permeability zones of a geologic cross section having several zones of varied permeability.
Management of Wavefront is confident that the ability of pressure pulse technology to improve injection conformance and increase inactivity will translate into reduced project life for "pump and treat" applications and increased use in pressure pulse technology for the application of in situ amendments due to improved injection conformance and contact efficiency. The overall size of the United States environmental sector for soil and ground water remediation is in excess of $US 10 billion annually.(1)
Wavefront is a service contractor that provides sound technical and environmentally responsible solutions to the challenges facing the environmental and petroleum sectors. Through implementation of innovative technologies Wavefront provides a focused, bottom-line approach that enhances human health, the environment and protects our clients' investments.
