ESP Provides Cutting Edge Software Solution to Meet New 1605b Guidelines for Greenhouse Gas Reporting
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIFORNIA, Dec. 4 -/E-Wire/-- ESP (Environmental Software Providers), the pioneer and world leader in enterprise greenhouse gas information management, has announced that its Greenhouse Gas Suite software offers companies a cost-effective solution for meeting newly revised 1605b guidelines. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released last week for comment a new set of guidelines for its Voluntary Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program. The revised guidelines represent a significant change in the scope and content of reporting that is required, which poses major new data management challenges. ESP's Greenhouse Gas Suite offers a highly effective way for companies to not only meet the new requirements, but also position them to more easily benefit from Reduction Credits they receive for their efforts.
"ESP is fully committed to helping companies accommodate rapidly evolving approaches to the climate change issue," said David Cain, Vice President of Greenhouse Gas Products at ESP. "Our software has been helping companies manage changing regulatory climates and embrace environmentally sustainable business practices for over a decade, so it's no surprise that our Greenhouse Gas Suite now stands at the forefront of the greenhouse gas management arena. ESP anticipated the new 1605b changes and is poised to help companies participating in the voluntary reporting program upgrade to meet the new guidelines in a seamless fashion."
One of the most significant changes in the new 1605b is the capability of participants to register their emission reductions, as opposed to reporting them. This will position participants to receive Credits for their actions to mitigate or prevent climate change. But, in order to do so, these participants will for the first time have to establish an entity-wide greenhouse gas inventory that covers at least 97% of their total emissions of all greenhouse gas sources. This covers all 6 major greenhouse gas types. Greenhouse gas reductions include reductions in emissions intensity, absolute reductions, avoided emissions, project reductions, and carbon storage. These reductions must be calculated to factor out reductions that might have been caused by declines in U.S. output.
ESP's Greenhouse Gas Suite? provides off-the-shelf capability for entity-wide analysis and reporting greenhouse gas emissions, fully in accord with the new DOE guidelines. This capability has proven to be scaleable to accommodate small and very large corporations with a level of accuracy and precision that can exceed the 97% threshold specified in the new 1605b guidelines. Reduction calculations automatically eliminate production output effects in the manner prescribed by the DOE reduction methodology. Users will be able not only to report their emissions but also register their reductions in a fully auditable and verifiable manner. And as a highly configurable off-the-shelf solution, Greenhouse Gas Suite offers significant cost benefits over internally developed solutions, which often need to be entirely revamped to accommodate new requirements or the acquisition of new facilities.
ESP's Greenhouse Gas Suite is currently in use to help forward-looking companies take charge of their greenhouse gas programs from the facility level to the enterprise level. It is the only greenhouse gas software on the market which is currently in use on an enterprise scale.
