CANADA, Mar. 17 -/E-Wire/-- Adam Sumel, President and CEO of Sonic Environmental Solutions Inc. (SNV.TSX Venture) is pleased to announce the CANMET team have arrived in Vancouver to start the first phase of testing as per our Collaboration Agreement announced December 11th 2003. The Collaboration Agreement between Sonic and CANMET Energy Technology Centre, a division of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) was executed after a major Canadian Power Plant confirmed an interest in the process, and after NRCan granted Sonic an option on an exclusive license for a patented process. CANMET developed and patented this process (primarily for coal fired fluidized bed plants), based on earlier work using Sonic's Platform Technology. This previous work suggested accelerated conditioning, pacification and carbonation of Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion (CFBC) ashes. One of the secondary benefits of this process is that it has the potential to lower carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from thermal generating stations.
Adam Sumel stated: "I am pleased that Dr. James Hill is now on as a full time member of the Sonic team to spearhead this secondary application on the pacification of residual fly ash from CFBC boilers. I am confident that Dr. Ben Anthony (a world leader in combustion) and his team from CANMET will continue to work closely with the Company to develop this global application to commercial success."
Further to our news release of March 24th: commissioning of Plant One is currently underway and we are on schedule for demonstrations on the remediation of PCB contaminated soils for the Ministry of Land, Water and Air. The permit granted by the Ministry states that these tests can commence after April 1st. These demonstrations are a final step in over two years of testing, developing, engineering and validating this PCB destruction process. This application is the first commercial application for Sonic and we are looking forward to commercially deploying our mobile solution for this significant global problem.
Sonic owns a patented Platform Technology that produces sonic energy at industrial scale and has the potential of becoming the next platform for many industrial and environmental processes. The Company will be displayed at Globe 2004 in Vancouver March 31st through April 2nd 2004, This trade fair is where major environmental players come together under one roof. Sonic will also be represented in Japan at the 18th International Congress on Acoustics from April 4th to the 9th by the President of the European Sonochemistry Society, Professor Timothy Mason. Both of Sonic's PCB destruction and CFBC applications will be covered.
