EARTH DAY MEDIA ALERT

NOVA/PBS EXPLORE THE ISSUES BEHIND

The Planet's Biggest Environmental Challenges On the Earth Day Special:World in the balance

WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, Apr. 6 -/E-Wire/-- WHO: NOVA, PBS' award-winning science series, airing nationally, Tuesdays at 8pm ET.

WHAT: Poor women's reproductive health rights; HIV, healthcare and family planning to cope with this worldwide epidemic; rapid population growth in developing countries putting stress on food, water and ecosystems; industrialized nations aging and experiencing diminishing birth rates; what it means to the United States work force as developing countries struggle to create jobs for burgeoning young populations; and the stress on China's environment as the country's population becomes more affluent and follows in the consumption footsteps of the United States. These news stories pose critical environmental challenges as we acknowledge Earth Day 2004. NOVA's World in the Balance will address these issues, their effect in the U.S., and trends in the relationship between people and our planet.
