Give Mom the Gift of Life —

Adopt an Endangered Sea Turtle for Mother's Day!

GAINESVILLE, FLORIDA, Apr. 20 -/E-Wire/-- In Native American folklore, Mother Earth is often depicted as a turtle floating in a primal sea. In other ancient cultures, the sea turtle appeared as an important fertility token—symbolizing reproduction and the great bounty of the oceans. This Mother's Day, why not draw on these ancient depictions of sea turtles in choosing a meaningful gift for your own mother. Celebrate her gift of life to you by adopting an endangered sea turtle from the Sea Turtle Survival League, and help important efforts to recover these ancient, time-honored creatures.

Sea Turtle Survival League is the membership program of the oldest sea turtle research and conservation group in the world—the Caribbean Conservation Corp. Here are a few important details about the Adopt-A-Turtle program:

For a tax-deductible donation of at least $25, the Sea Turtle Survival League (STSL) will send your mom a personalized adoption certificate, a sea turtle conservation guide, a colorful sticker, and a magnet, all in a beautiful color folder. Plus, she will receive a one-year membership in CCC and a subscription to the popular newsletter, The Velador. Depending on donation level, she will also receive a special gift: $25—a fun sea turtle pen; $35—a set of miniature sea turtle replicas; $50—a plush sea turtle; $100—a logo T-shirt.

STSL's Adopt-A-Turtle program offers the unique opportunity to adopt turtles being tracked by researchers using satellites. This popular program utilizes space-age technology to follow the mysterious migrations of sea turtles after they nest. People adopting the "satellite-tagged" turtles can follow their turtle's migratory movements on the Internet by visiting www.cccturtle.org. These satellite turtles have already been named by researchers, but if you want to adopt a turtle for your mother and give it a meaningful, personal name, we also offer that option.

Proceeds from turtle adoptions support the oldest and most accomplished sea turtle conservation programs in the world. CCC and its Sea Turtle Survival League conduct the world's longest-running sea turtle research and conservation project at Tortuguero, Costa Rica. The group also carries out turtle conservation projects in Bermuda, Panama and in the United States, especially in Florida.

"Sea turtles are global ambassadors to the state of our planet. These ancient nomads know no political boundaries—nesting on the shores of countless countries and inhabiting every ocean. Unfortunately, they are in danger of extinction. Oean pollution, coastal development, and other threats have taken their toll on sea turtles. Factors that affect the health of sea turtles and their ocean habitats also affect mankind. Adopting a sea turtle as a Mother's Day gift is a great way to give something back to Mom, while helping preserve an important component or our Mother Earth," said David Godfrey, Executive Director.

Founded in 1959 by renowned ecologist and author Dr. Archie Carr, the Caribbean Conservation Corp is dedicated to conserving marine turtles and other coastal and marine wildlife through research, education, advocacy and protection of the natural habitats upon which they depend. To adopt a sea turtle for yourself or as a gift, call (800) 678?7853 or visit CCC's website at www.cccturtle.org.
