RailPower(R) announces 'remote control' Green Kid hybrid locomotive sale in Vancouver, BC

CANADA, Jun. 7 -/E-Wire/-- RailPower Technologies Corp. (TSX: P) announced today that intermodal cargo handling operator IDC Distribution Services Ltd. ('IDC') has signed a Letter of Intent to purchase one of RailPower's environmentally friendly Green Kid hybrid yard locomotives for its rail facility near Vancouver, BC. Mike Templeton, IDC's Vice President said: "As the operator of a new facility on the Fraser River, we have found a locomotive with the features of modern technology that are in keeping with our highly modern operation. The environmental benefits, low operating costs and BELTPACK® remote control, were all factors in our decision."

Jim Maier, President and CEO of RailPower Technologies, said: "IDC is an innovative new operator, which is building an intermodal yard adjacent to Fraser Surrey Docks in Surrey, BC. Our locomotive design fits in well with their groundbreaking operating arrangements, given its features of low emissions and quiet operation. We are proud to count this company among our customers."

RailPower's hybrid locomotives feature small diesel gensets and large banks of recyclable lead-acid batteries. Remanufactured from existing switcher locomotives, they cut oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and particulates 80-90%, while reducing greenhouse gases and diesel fuel consumption 50-80%, when compared to conventional yard switchers.

RailPower Technologies Corp. is a leader in specialized energy technology systems for transportation and power generation. The company is headquartered in Vancouver, Canada, and has a US office in Erie, Pennsylvania. The company's website is www.railpower.com.

IDC will start operations in August at its new rail intermodal facility. The site is owned by the Fraser River Port Authority and is adjacent to the Fraser Surrey Docks marine terminal in suburban Vancouver. Over 35 million metric tonnes of cargo passed through the port in 2003. The IDC intermodal facility is designed to provide an extremely efficient service of loading and discharging cargo to and from railcars. The main cargo to be handled is containers, originating from, or destined for, the Fraser Surrey Docks marine terminal. More information on Fraser Surrey Docks can be found at www.fsd.bc.ca.
