TO ENVIRONMENTAL EDITORS:
Conservation Fellowships Offered in Montana
BOZEMAN, MONTANA, Jan. 31 -/E-Wire/-- The Kinship Conservation Institute (KCI) is an exciting new summer program offered by PERC (Political Economy Research Center). This month-long institute is designed to educate conservation leaders in the early stages of their careers on the prospects of using market approaches to solve environmental problems.
The institute will include formal lectures and field trips as well as case studies of environmental entrepreneurs that illustrate the most innovative approaches to environmental problems. Experts from around the country will lead discussions on topics such as property rights, contracting, finance, and statistics. Participants will have an opportunity to network with other conservation leaders and professors.
In addition, participants will be expected to bring a proposed project on which they will work while attending the institute. They will be able to utilize their expertise to develop a business plan or case study applicable to their work. Our mission is to educate the fellows in the efficacy of market approaches and to arm them with the tools to carry them out.
Please consider nominating a member of a conservation organization who would benefit from learning more about market approaches. Details about the institute can be found on the PERC web site (www.perc.org/kci.htm) and brochures are available from PERC upon request. The institute will be held in Bozeman, Montana, from June 3-30, 2001 with space limited to fifteen fellows. Note that the application deadline is March 1, 2001.
Applicants must submit: 1) a resume; 2) a letter of recommendation from someone who can comment on how applicant will benefit from the seminars and contribute to it; 3) a statement of why applicant wants to attend KCI; and 4) a proposed project on which applicant will work while at the institute. Because time is valuable, participants will receive a stipend of $4,500 from which they must pay their own travel expenses. Meals, lodging, and reading materials will be provided.
If you have any questions about the institute, feel free to contact Eric Noyes at [REDACTED-EMAIL] or [REDACTED-EMAIL], or by phone at PERC (406)587-9591.
