CyGene Laboratories Receives U.S. Patent Office Notice of Allowance for next Generation Gene Therapy Technology

CORAL SPRINGS, FLORIDA, Jul. 22 -/E-Wire/-- CyGene Laboratories, Inc. (OTC BB: CYGE.OB) announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has approved and will issue a patent for the company's next generation gene-capture technology. Although developed for the highly efficient capture of genetic sequences for diagnostic purposes, the greatest commercial potential for the technology lies in its properties that allow for its use as a highly stable and efficient gene therapy drug for Antisense and RNA Interference (RNAi).

Antisense and RNAi can function to destroy and/or inhibit the reproduction of organisms such as viruses, bacteria, parasites or cancer cells and can block the production of proteins that have harmful effects on a patient. Diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disorders, inflammatory diseases, and infectious diseases are some examples where this gene therapy could offer new hope to the effective and safe treatment of patients. Developed with distinct properties that allow the drug to resist enzymatic degradation and survive the harsh environment in the bloodstream, this next generation approach is superior to conventional gene therapy drugs which can undergo rapid degradation and elimination in the body and are not efficiently taken up into diseased cells, resulting in decreased drug efficacy.

"With today's patent notification, CyGene now has its first patent for one of two distinct platform drugs," said Martin Munzer, Chief Executive Officer, CyGene Laboratories, Inc. "Our drug candidates under development hold significant commercial applications in the areas of disease treatment and for the containment of the spread of bio-chemical warfare agents."
