FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Airgas Executives Receive Three Awards from Compressed Gas Association
PENNSYLVANIA, RADNOR, Mar. 26 -/E-Wire/-- Airgas Chairman and CEO Peter McCausland and Airgas President and COO Glenn Fischer were honored recently by the Compressed Gas Association (CGA) with the Em Thomas Award for Lifetime Achievement for their work in the last two years to improve the industry trade association's operations.
The Em Thomas Award is named after H. Emerson Thomas, who served in the leadership of CGA for more than 60 years and was the only individual to serve as both president and chairman of CGA, which is based in Arlington, VA.
"Peter and Glenn led two separate task forces to review our expenses and dues structures," explained CGA President Carl Johnson. "These were both very significant moves on behalf of our board of directors, which have made this a stronger trade association, with more equity for our members."
Johnson explained that Fischer led the expense task force in 1999 and 2000 while serving on CGA's board as president of BOC Gases. McCausland led the dues task force in 1999 and 2000 while serving as Airgas' member on the CGA Board of Directors, a role he recently delegated to Fischer, who joined Airgas as president and COO in November 2000.
Separately, CGA honored McCausland with an Environmental Recognition Award for the leadership role he and Airgas have played in promoting the use of refillable cylinders, thereby reducing the ozone-depleting gases released into the atmosphere. A study commissioned by Airgas and conducted by ICF Kaiser estimated that by using 30-pound refillable cylinders, instead of disposable ones, the industry could prevent the release of millions of pounds of environmentally hazardous refrigerants.
CGA also honored Derek Gill, technical director for Airgas SAFECOR, and Duane Young, director of Airgas SAFECOR, for developing a mobile laboratory that is capable of remotely sampling and identifying the contents of stockpiled cylinders with unknown products. Such cylinders often contain corrosive and/or toxic gases, which can then be safely remediated.
The Compressed Gas Association is dedicated to the development and promotion of safety standards and safe practices in the industrial gas industry. Airgas, Inc. is the largest distributor of industrial, medical and specialty gases and welding equipment and one of the largest distributors of safety supplies in the United States. Airgas' integrated distributor network consists of approximately 700 locations, including branches, packaged gas fill plants, distribution centers, and inbound and outbound telemarketing operations.
