WESTON Joint Venture Wins $303 Million DOE Remediation Contract
WESTCHESTER, PENNSYLVANIA, Jan. 18 -/E-Wire/Business Wire/-- Weston Solutions, Inc. (WESTON(R)) announced today that its joint venture company, North Wind Paducah Cleanup Company LLC (North Wind Paducah), has been awarded the prime contract for cleanup of the DOE Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant (PGDP) by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). North Wind Paducah is an SBA-approved small business created through a joint venture partnership between North Wind, Inc, a woman-owned small disadvantaged business, and Weston Solutions, Inc. (WESTON(R)), combining resources, financing and business systems of both companies to deliver comprehensive solutions to the DOE.
"WESTON and North Wind share complementary capabilities and a common vision for quality, integrity, and success. We've worked well together on numerous projects, so we're thrilled to take it to the next level to jointly provide innovative solutions and greater support to DOE," stated WESTON President and Chief Executive Officer, Patrick G. McCann. This sentiment was echoed by Sylvia Medina, North Wind President, "We are very excited about this project and the opportunity to team with WESTON; the power and synergy of this relationship provides a strong capability to perform to DOE and stakeholders expectations."
The remediation effort includes cleanup of a groundwater contamination plume, remediation of contaminated soil, shipment of low- level radioactive waste stored in scrap metal and material storage yards, decommissioning of several buildings, environmental monitoring, disposition of newly generated site waste and operation of site waste management facilities.
The Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant, owned by DOE, was constructed in the mid-1950s to manufacture enriched uranium for commercial and defense use. DOE oversees site cleanup. The plant still operates through a lease with the United States Enrichment Corporation, which supplies enriched uranium for commercial use.
