Eyewitness News Covers American Biofuels Biodiesel
Production in California
BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA, May. 25 -/E-Wire/-- American Biofuels, LLC (ABF), 35% owned by Green Star Products, Inc. (OTC:GSPI), announced today that an Eyewitness News story (May 20, 2005 - CBS Eyewitness News Channel 29 Bakersfield, California) covered the advantages of American Biofuels producing clean renewable biodiesel from waste restaurant cooking oil.
Reporter Carol Ferguson of CBS Eyewitness News interviewed Christine Mateo, a Supervisor at San Joaquin Hospital, who said that it's a better way to use the hospital's used cooking oil to help produce biodiesel and clean up the air in Central California.
The camera crew taped the collection truck making its rounds to pickup local restaurant oils by Safe Environmental Alternatives (SEA), a waste-cooking-oil-collecting company sponsored by American Biofuels.
The ABF biodiesel plant in Bakersfield processes the much less expensive waste cooking oil feedstock into clean high- grade biodiesel fuel.
Also, last week President Bush toured a biodiesel plant in Virginia. The LA Times (May 17, 2005) stated: "President Bush praised biodiesel as one of the most promising alternative fuel sources while he stepped up pressure on the Senate to pass his Energy Bill, which he said would reverse American's dependence on foreign oil."
The President's visit to the biodiesel plant was covered on national television showing the President walking on high platforms above the Virginia biodiesel plant's huge stainless steel processing tanks. The television coverage of the Virginia plant is an excellent visual example of how large typical batch plant components must be to produce the current volumes of fuel produced by the Virginia plant.
In contrast, the patent pending, continuous flow, waterless biodiesel production process utilized at the ABF Bakersfield Plant was covered by an earlier Eyewitness News report that was aired on July 26, 2004. A comparison of the television footage clearly shows that the Bakersfield plant is much smaller in size than the Virginia plant and at the same time can produce five times the capacity (5-million gallons per year versus 1-million gallons per year).
In other words, ABF'S state-of-the-art continuous flow biodiesel plant requires much less land space and utilizes smaller, less costly, components to offer a capacity of 5 times the annual output offered with the more conventional batch plant technology. The ABF technology also reduces operation and maintenance cost; permits higher operation efficiency; and, requires far less time to build. The 5 million gallon per year Bakersfield plant required only 14 weeks to complete construction.
American Biofuels has been a member of the National Biodiesel Board (NBB) since 2001 and in the same year received its registration for three EPA certificates for its biodiesel fuel and fuel additives and was approved to participate in the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Bioenergy Program ( http://www.fsa.usda.gov/daco/bio_daco.htm ).
The Bioenergy Program pays biofuel producers cash payments based on their actual production of biofuel. In 2004, ABF was listed on the USDA Bioenergy Program website as the 8th largest producer of biodiesel in the U.S. and the largest producer on the west coast.
