All Bentley Prince Street Standard Carpet Products Certified As Environmentally Preferable By Scientific Certification Systems

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, Jul. 6 -/E-Wire/-- All of Bentley Prince Street's standard broadloom and modular products have received Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) Certification from Scientific Certification Systems (SCS), an independent, third-party certifier.

While SCS had certified select Bentley Prince Street carpet lines as Environmentally Preferable Products in April 2004, EPP certification now extends to all standard company products. Certification was awarded after a rigorous evaluation process in which SCS examined each phase of all company product life cycles, starting with the raw materials and including resource consumption, product manufacturing, product use and end of life. SCS also found that Bentley Prince Street demonstrated superior corporate environmental performance, extended product responsibility and transparency in reporting on a broad range of environmental impacts.

"Our goal has always been to combine the best in design with industry-leading environmental practices in creating our carpet lines. Receiving EPP certification for all our standard products is a significant milestone for our company and an important step in our journey to sustainability," said Anthony Minite, president of Bentley Prince Street. "We hope this objective third-party certification will both help and encourage the marketplace to identify and choose products that protect our planet's natural resources."

Through Executive Order 13101, commonly referred to as the "greening of the government," the Federal government defines "Environmentally Preferable" as products or services that have a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment when compared with competing products or services that serve the same purpose. Environmentally preferable is more comprehensive than single attribute claims, such as recycled content. -- more รขย€ย“ All Bentley Prince Street Standard Products Receive EPP Certification

"Bentley Prince Street has demonstrated a leadership role in delivering a broad portfolio of environmentally preferable products available to customers," said Kirsten Ritchie, director of environmental claims for SCS. "They have continued to improve the environmental profile of their products with notable improvements in energy and waste reduction, and the use of renewable energy. These are especially important as the building industry begins to confront the challenges ahead related to climate change."

All Bentley Prince Street products are also certified to meet the requirements of the Carpet and Rug Institute's Green Label Plus test protocol, an independent testing program that measures total volatile organic compound emissions as well as individual chemical concentrations.
