Miranda H. Henning joins ENVIRON's new Portland, Maine, office

PORTLAND, MAINE, Oct. 11 -/E-Wire/-- ENVIRON is pleased to announce the opening of an ENVIRON office in Portland, Maine, and the addition of Miranda H. Henning, M.E.M., as a Senior Manager in the new location. The new Portland office will reflect sustainable design and energy-efficiency practices. Ms. Henning joins the firm from ARCADIS G&M;, Inc., where she successfully led the company's northern region risk assessment practice, with a diverse industrial, trade organization and law firm client base. According to Richard Wenning, a Principal in the firm's EcoRisk and Sediment Management practice area, "The Portland office, under Miranda's direction, will enhance the firm's ability to provide health and ecological risk related services to clients in the New England and mid-Atlantic regions, where the demand for these services is high."

Ms. Henning has over 15 years of experience in field-based techniques for evaluating potential damages and risks associated with exposure of terrestrial wildlife to PCBs, dioxins and other contaminants in soil and water. Ms. Henning has played an active role advocating regulatory reform in the areas of ecological risk assessment methods, PCB toxicology and establishment of risk-based screening-levels for PCBs and other prominent chemicals. She has published in the primary scientific literature and contributed to book chapters on environmental toxicology and ecological risk assessment. Ms. Henning has an M.E.M in Water and Air Resources from Duke University, and a B.A. in Environmental Science from Wesleyan University.

Highlights of Miranda's professional experience include:

* Recognized expert in population ecology and ecotoxicology of wildlife, particularly exposure modeling and ecotoxicity of industrial chemicals on songbirds, raptors and waterfowl.

* Designed and implemented wildlife field-studies to support ecological risk assessments of PCBs, dioxins and heavy metals at active and abandoned industrial sites.

* Represented clients on environmental cleanup and natural resource damages in negotiations with U.S. EPA, U.S. Department of Justice, National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, as well as state agencies throughout New England and in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Oregon and Washington.

* Managed complex RCRA Closures/Corrective Action/Facility Investigation Projects and Superfund Sites in the New England and Atlantic region, as well as in U.S. EPA Regions I, II, III, V and X.
