Meeting The Sustainability Challenge

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, Oct. 13 -/E-Wire/-- The Executive Education Program at the USC Center for Sustainable Cities is presenting an innovative and dynamic leadership training in urban sustainability in Los Angeles, California, on November 11-13, 2005. This training provides a thorough introduction to sustainability concepts and gives participants practical tools for improving business and government operations by putting these concepts into practice.

Curriculum components include Sustainability as a Business Development, Management, and Eco-Efficiency Strategy, Sustainability in Architecture, Design and Construction, and Sustainability in Urban Land Use, Conservation, and Watershed Practices. The curriculum is designed to provide executives, nonprofit and government leaders, and professionals an integrated understanding of sustainability concepts and practices.

Major topics include life-cycle costing and environmental assessment, socially responsible investment (SRI) and financing, facility design and management, urban infrastructure and land-use, and sustainability indicators.

Continuing Education Credits available for the State Bar of California, AIA, APA/AICP and others. Program includes official US Green Building Council, LEED-NC Introductory 101 Workshop.

Keynote speakers will include engineer Braden Allenby, former vice-president for environmental, health, and safety at AT&T; and a leader in industrial ecology; architect Elizabeth Moule, co-founder of the Congress for New Urbanism and winner of the 1998 Seaside Prize; and Andy Lipkis, president of TreePeople, a nonprofit group nationally known for innovative work on urban infrastructure.

Tuition is $1365/person for non-profit organizations and $1560/person for all other attendees. Limited scholarships are available.
