North American Hazardous Waste Firms Weigh in at $3.5 Billion
WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, Jan. 3 -/E-Wire/-- The hazardous waste industry comprises firms that operate facilities permitted to treat, store or dispose of hazardous wastes generated by others รขยย wastes that are either regulated as hazardous under federal, state, or provincial law; or that are considered to be hazardous by the generator. According to the Hazardous Waste Industry Review 2004-2005, a new report released by Farkas Berkowitz & Company, the size of the market in the U.S. and Canada was $3.5 billion in 2004, unchanged from 2003. Clean Harbors is the dominant firm in the industry with 2004 revenues of $643 million and a market share of 19 percent. Sixteen firms with revenues of $30-$500 million have a collective market share of 69 percent. Approximately 105 firms, each with revenues less than $30 million constitute the remaining 12 percent of the market.
