The Makers Hand/ Artistry in Wood

Sharada gallery focuses on hand made, one-of-a-kind furniture by various studio furniture makers

HUDSON, NEW YORK, Jan. 13 -/E-Wire/-- In a world that is fast becoming technological it is refreshing to see anything made by hand. Sharada Gallery in Hudson, New York makes one-of-a-kind studio furniture its primary focus. The furniture is all hand made by studio furniture makers from various parts of the country. The furniture at Sharada gallery is conceptual, sculptural, and modern, with perfect joinery but most of all they are art. Why focus on Studio Furniture making it its prime objective? It is an art form that does not find it self much publicity these days. Studio Furniture is hand made, one-of-a-kind pieces made in small studios, by artist craftsmen much like painters or sculptors. The works are hand crafted in wood and takes many hours to produce. Who cannot imagine that furniture speaks, will have to take a visit to the Sharada Gallery. There are pieces that are political, historical, philosophical, whimsical, sculptural, all expressing themselves as art. Art is a form of expression which most definitely can express it self in furniture. The furniture at the Gallery is functional with some blurring the lines of functionality and is pure sculpture. What makes this gallery different is that it highlights furniture, which will one day become the antiques of the future.

Sharada Mia a former Art Director from New York City is the owner and director of the Gallery. She moved to the Hudson Valley to start her newly married life with her husband. She became interested in studio furniture after viewing the works of Wendell Castle some years ago. "He changed my views not only on what art is…but what furniture can be." The Gallery shows furniture makers who are recognizable in their field of studio furniture.

The Show will be up for several months on Warren Street in Hudson New York. Hudson is two hours north of Manhattan and within walking distance of Amtrak train. It is home to several fine art galleries, fine antique shops, and auction house. Hudson is historical and makes a well-deserved visit.
