PECI "walks the walk": All air travel related emissions for 2005 are offset though The Climate Trust

PORTLAND, OREGON, Jan. 31 -/E-Wire/-- Portland Energy Conservation, Inc. (PECI) and The Climate Trust announced today that they will collaborate on GHG offset market development and that PECI will fund offsets through The Climate Trust to address the impact of the company's air travel for 2005.

PECI is the first energy service organization to voluntarily address their climate impact from air travel with high-quality offsets from the Climate Trust. The Climate Trust will provide PECI with verified and permanent offsets as part of the organization's overall environmental strategy. Like many companies, PECI must undertake extensive business-related travel as part of its growing operations, especially air travel. Unfortunately, air travel is also one of the fastest growing contributors to global warming.

"We think PECI can play a constructive role in helping energy companies think about this issue going forward, and we wanted to start by showing that we take our own carbon footprint seriously," said Phil Welker, PECI's Executive Director. "Our clients are in the electricity generation sector which accounts for over 30% of the nation's greenhouse gas emissions annually," he added.

"Energy service companies are natural leaders in providing all kinds of value related to reducing greenhouse gas emissions," said Mike Burnett, Executive Director of The Climate Trust. "As a Portland-based organization with national reach, we are really proud of PECI's leadership on this particular issue."

Offsets are a readily available and high-quality tool for reducing the impact of global warming. The Climate Trust provides a cost efficient and sustainable solution as it carefully selects offsets for PECI that fulfill strict criteria. These projects are real and make a difference today. In addition to reducing global GHG emissions, The Climate Trust offsets increase investments in clean technologies, create jobs, and contribute to sustainable development.

The Climate Trust (www.climatetrust.org) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting climate change solutions by providing high quality greenhouse gas offset projects and advancing sound offset policy. The Climate Trust has offset more than 1.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide from $4 million invested into offset projects รขย€ย“ making it one of the largest and most experienced offset buyers in the U.S. and world markets. It provides offsets to power plants, regulators, businesses and entities of all sizes and individuals. Our service includes our www.carboncounter.org website that easily calculates individual emissions and allows the user to fund offsets via a credit card transaction.

PECI: Since 1980, our passion for energy efficiency has driven us toward practical solutions. Inspired by the special challenges of the efficiency market and driven by our mission to help everyone use energy more effectively, we've assisted organizations such as the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, the Energy Trust of Oregon, and the California Energy Commission in promoting energy-efficient practices and technologies that benefit both businesses and individual consumers. www.peci.org
