Organic flowers, a growing business
CHICO, CALIFORNIA, Feb. 10 -/E-Wire/-- On a frosty Northern California morning, local organic flower farmer Marc Kessler takes me inside his warm greenhouse full of bright red French tulips. "Well, I'd say our timing was perfect this year, we planted these tulips in October for Valentine's Day and here we are on February 10th and they are ready to ship".
Kessler who grows flowers for local farmers markets and is a profession floral designer has just launched a new online flower store called CaliforniaOrganicFlowers.com. "We feel that consumers are looking for more than the same old roses and carnations...we see it every week at the local farmers markets..they want fresh, fragrant and unique varieties." commented Kessler.
When you look across the more than two acres of flowers on this scenic flower farm you can see that this is no ordinary flower growing operation. The shear volume of varieties and colors is a feast for the eyes. And in contrast to conventional flower farms, no chemicals of any kind are used on this farm.
When asked by he chooses to grow flowers organically, Kessler said, "As a culture, we use flowers to celebrate nature, to say 'thank you', to say 'I love you', they are very important....I think everyone wants a happy story behind their flowers, I am sure if they knew what is sprayed on the average rose, they would be appalled"
