The Climate Trust Offsets New York City Premiere of "The Great Warming" Documentary on Global Climate Change
PORTLAND, OREGON, Mar. 16 -/E-Wire/-- The Climate Trust is proud to announce it will purchase and retire 50 metric tons of greenhouse gas emission (GHG) reductions for the U.S. and Oregon premieres of THE GREAT WARMING. Narrated by international recording artist Alanis Morissette and actor Keanu Reeves, THE GREAT WARMING is a stunning film that sweeps around the world to reveal how a changing climate is affecting the lives of people everywhere.
The Great Warming emphasizes solutions to climate change, as well as explains the science behind it using clear terms and elegant graphics. GHG offsets are a part of the solution and The Climate Trust is a provider of high-quality GHG offsets to individuals, businesses and regulated industries around the country.
The GHG offsets donated by The Climate Trust are equivalent to shutting down Madison Square Garden for 150 days. They also effectively take 660 cars off the road for one week, and match 35 flights between Los Angeles and New York. See www.climatetrust.org and www.carboncounter.org for more information on high-quality GHG offsets.
The Climate Trust is using unrestricted program funds to purchase these offsets from a pool of reduction projects under management. Funding goes to the project developers who take on the risk of project performance and agree exclusively to sell the associated GHG emission reductions to us. The offsets for The Great Warming will be "retired" in the name of the film. Over 92% of all funds at The Climate Trust go into programs, as opposed to marketing and overhead costs.
GHG offsets from The Climate Trust are additional, rigorously monitored and verified by a third party, and meet the regulatory requirements of the Oregon and Massachusetts caps on emissions for new coal and gas-fired power plants in those states.
The Climate Trust's donation will offset GHGs generated from the premiere events in New York City on March 23rd and at Cinema 21 in Portland, OR. The sold-out U.S. premier of The Great Warming is on March 23 in New York City, at the Ziegfeld Theater at 141 W 54th St in Manhattan. The film will continue showing April 7th through 13th at the Village East Cinema in New York at 181 Second Avenue in Manhattan.
THE GREAT WARMING includes hard-hitting comments from scientists and opinion-makers targeting America's lack of leadership in what is certainly the most critical environmental issue of the 21st century, as well as new scenes documenting the emerging voice of America's Evangelical community urging action on climate change.
It also looks at evidence that human activities are provoking an unprecedented era of atmospheric warming and climatic events: more drought, wildfires and flooding, polar melting, more powerful storms and more variable weather. Tropical diseases are moving north, childhood respiratory illnesses are skyrocketing, and in the last three decades more than 30 diseases new to science have emerged.
Filmed in the USA, China, Europe and South America, this wide-ranging, compelling film taps into the growing groundswell of public concern about climate change to present an emotional, accurate picture of our children's planet.
Is it possible to avert disaster? Can a paradigm of progress built on fossil fuels be altered significantly in time? Will changing the way things are done mean economic ruin, or new opportunities? These are some of the questions the show poses.
THE GREAT WARMING is a production of Stonehaven Productions Inc.
