Startech Environmental Sells Plasma Converter for Rhode Island Installation
WILTON, CONNECTICUT, Feb. 5 -/E-Wire/-- Startech Environmental Corp. (Nasdaq: STHK), the world leader in plasma waste destruction and recycling technology, announced today it has contracted for the sale of a 10,000 pound per day commercial Plasma Converter(TM) system (PC(TM)) with Unistar/Peras, LLC. The system will be used to process hazardous and toxic waste. The Company received a significant down payment and the contract provides for scheduled manufacturing progress payments. Manufacturing is expected to commence within sixty (60) days.
Joseph S. Klimek, Executive Vice President said, "We are very pleased to be moving forward on the Rhode Island installation. The opening of our Showroom in Bristol, Connecticut and the sale contract for Rhode Island are both very important steps towards making 2001 a successful year for us. In addition to these two events we also continue to make progress on the sales we have previously announced for South Africa, Taiwan and Japan, and the Letter of Intent for Poland."
About Startech Environmental Corp: Startech is an environmental equipment company whose Plasma Converter is essentially an electrochemical system that, while safely destroying wastes, even hazardous wastes, converts those materials into useful and valuable commodity products. It does this economically, efficiently, with relatively few moving parts, and without combustion. Electricity is the prime mover in the Plasma Converter process, and the principal result is the chemical dissociation (decomposition) of the feed materials after which their elemental components (atoms) are reformed into useful commodities. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has designated materials, even if they may have once been regarded as wastes, or hazardous wastes, undergoing such a recycling process, no longer as wastes, but as "feedstocks."

Such forward-looking statements involve known and unknown risks, uncertainties and other factors which may cause the actual results, performance or achievements of the company to be materially different from any future results, performance or achievements expressed or implied by such forward-looking statements. Such factors include general economic and business conditions that currently exist in the United States and internationally in general, and the waste industry in particular. The project in Rhode Island will depend upon the ability of third parties to fund the program and its operations, the end user receiving necessary government permits and approvals for operation of the system in Rhode Island, and other factors over which Startech Environmental Corporation has little or no control. The International sales have similar risks and uncertainties, but also include political instability and currency valuation factors that do not exist for domestic sales.
