Recent Acquisition of Environmental Group Furthers Regional Presence
WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, Apr. 17 -/E-Wire/-- Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP (Paul Hastings) announced today the addition of a four attorney environmental practice group, previously with Baker & Hostetler, to the firm's Washington, D.C. office. The environmental group, headed by Thomas R. Mounteer, partner and former head of Baker & Hostetler's environmental practice, includes three associates, Lisa Rushton, Judith Farrand and Roberta "Bobbie" Barkman and three legal assistants. The addition of this prestigious group greatly enhances Paul Hastings' environmental and real estate presence in the Washington, D.C. area, as well as on the East Coast. Mr. Mounteer is now Co-Chair of Paul Hastings' National Environmental Practice with Peter Weiner.

Mr. Mounteer, a distinguished environmental attorney in Washington, D.C., was most recently the Head of Baker & Hostetler's National Environmental Practice. In addition to practicing environmental law for the past fifteen years, Mr. Mounteer is also a prolific writer, having written over 20 articles in the areas of air and water pollution control and prevention, waste management, clean-up and liability and international treatment of hazardous materials, and he is an adjunct professor in George Washington University's graduate environmental law program. For the past five years, he has been teaching courses in hazardous waste management and cleanup and environmental issues in business transactions.

At Paul Hastings, Mr. Mounteer's practice will focus on counseling clients in the areas of state and federal laws governing solid and hazardous waste management and clean-up, air and water pollution control, chemical use and reporting, and environmental issues related to business transactions. Mounteer's nationally recognized clients include: ANC Rental Corporation, parent of the Alamo and National car rental chains; and Republic Services, the Nation's third largest waste service provider.

Mr. Mounteer, who received a J.D. and LL.M. in Environmental Law from George Washington University in 1986 and a B.A. from Union College in 1982, brings with him a team of three associates, with whom he's worked closely:
Lisa Rushton focuses on environmental compliance in relation to business transactions, as well as on federal and international environmental rule-making work issues. Ms. Rushton received a J.D. from Tulane University Law School in 1994; she received a B.A. from Bucknell University in 1989.
Judith Farrand focuses on complex regulatory counseling, including Superfund programs, constitutionality of local rules under the dormant Commerce Clause and other complex regulatory regimes. She received a J.D. (cum laude) from Vermont Law School in 1996, a Master of Studies in Environmental Law (magna cum laude) from Vermont Law School in 1996, and B.A. (magna cum laude; Phi Beta Kappa) from Southern Methodist University in 1993.
Roberta "Bobbie" Barkman, a former Assistant Attorney General in Maryland, focuses on environmental compliance with regulations and reporting obligations and real estate property transactions. She received a J.D. from New England School of Law in 1995, a B.A. from San Francisco State University in 1992 and is completing a LL.M. in Environmental Law at George Washington University.
