FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
AWEA Commends Nomination of Garman to DOE Renewable Energy Position
WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, Apr. 18 -/E-Wire/-- The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) today praised the nomination of David K. Garman as Assistant Secretary of Energy for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
Garman comes to his new position from Capitol Hill, where he served as Chief of Staff to Sen. Frank Murkowski (R-Alaska), who chairs the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. Garman has also served as a professional staff member on the Senate Energy Committee, where he handled energy efficiency, renewable energy, climate change and other scientific issues.
"We are very pleased with this appointment," said Randall Swisher, AWEA executive director. "In light of the California/Western energy crisis, it is vitally important to have a leader like David Garman who is committed to promoting a balanced energy portfolio in which utility-scale and smaller, distributed wind systems are part of the answer to our pressing energy needs.
"We believe he brings the knowledge and experience necessary to be a strong, effective Assistant Secretary for efficiency and renewable energy, and we look forward to working with him on energy policy and technology issues."
